about Jeanne

Jeanne (she/hers) is a songwriter and the lead singer of Parchment Doll. She writes her songs from the perspective of her own experiences with—and compassion for—the tragic beauty of human frailty. Her lyrics remind us that even the best people sometimes do wrong in the quest to avoid facing their fears, and they also remind us that even the worst people can find redemption if they have the courage to seek it. Through her poetic songs and her warm contralto vocals, Jeanne wishes to pull aside the imaginary veil between the mind and the heart, our past and our future, pain, growth, and the universal truths that make us human.

Before starting Parchment Doll, Jeanne was front person and co-founder of the band Tilia Americana, which released a self-titled EP Tilia Americana in 2016, played many very memorable shows, released a studio album, Now What? in 2017, and made significant progress tracking a new collection of songs before the band parted ways. In 2020, just before the world closed down due to the pandemic, Jeanne released a solo EP, No Such Thing As Forever.  Before that, she was a member of Home for the Bewildered

As songwriter, Jeanne loves symbolism and interconnection, and pulls her influences from a wide range of sources—music, literature, folklore, science, and life. Some critical ones have been Aimee Mann, Gillian Welch, Shirley Ann Manson, Karen Carpenter, Beth Gibbons, Susan Tedeschi, Jeff Tweedy, Thom Yorke, Kurt Cobain, Trent Reznor, Neil Young, David Bowie, 90’s grunge and trip-hop, 80’s post-punk and new wave, Madeline L’Engle,  Anne McCaffrey, Peter S. Beagle, Nancy Springer, JRR Tolkein, the Brothers Grimm, John Steinbeck, Shakespeare, Ovid, Homer, Stephen Hawking, Stephen Jay Gould,  and Franklin, Watson, and Crick.
